Today while T.J. and Thomas hung (lunch and nap for Thomas) I took Connor to Children's Hospital for his occupational therapy. It has been a whole month and he has lots of cool stuff to show off. He sees Cathy the OT. Since the last time she saw him he has been cruising in both directions, and able to get down. Connor has also been using his right hand intermittenly to pick up items or play. Usually when he has something already in his left hand.
The focus of today's session ended up being his "W" sitting. This has been something our Infants and Toddlers PT Adrienne has been working on with us. She has us telling him to fix his feet and to transition him to side sitting every time he does it. He does it alot! So after observing this Cathy brought in a PT to observe. They mentioned using something called a hip hugger to prevent him from sitting this way.
The PT also told us to trade in his jumpstarts for something that provides more support on for his feet. So now I have to figure out when to bring him back to Shoe Train. The last time we went to the shoe store we were there for an hour and a half. This is a serious time commitment. And from what I hear the weekends are crazy so it has to be during the week.
Connor will be going from wearing these jumpstart orthotics to these leapfrogs. They should help his stance and stabilize his feet more.
Cathy passed us off to the PT who wants to put Connor in a "universal gym" to get him jumping and walking. We only get 60 combined therapy visits for the year with our insurance and this PT wants to see him every other week. That will not work out at all. Kennedy Kreigers program alone will use up 42 and we have already used 5 and it isn't even March. I remember when Connor was born the insurance people told us how many visits we would get and it sounded like so many. Now it definitely doesn't sound like enough. Thank god for our PT and OT with Infants and Toddlers. They are awesome and teach me how to do everything with Connor at home and do not go through the insurance.
