June 6th Connor really stepped the walking up a notch just in time to show off to some friends. It is amazing how many kids just in this area have had strokes. Our pediatrician mentioned during Connor's 15 month checkup that one of her other patients had the same thing happen. We are in a really good place right now. Connor is doing super and making great strides and I wish when we first started this road that there was someone who could tell us it would be ok. A child who I could meet and see was doing great. Connor's team did tell me they could me in touch with other parents but the thought was scary. I didn't know what to expect and I couldn't take any more heartache.
If I knew in the beginning that this is how Connor would look and the things he could do I wouldn't have been nearly as worried. With that in mind I told the dr. to feel free to give out my name and number to this new mom if she needed a lifeline (that is how I think of it). Since then we have talked quite a few times and met up twice. This weekend our new friend Baby S came over and got to see Connor walking and one of our other friends Allie. The kids had a great time and so did the adults. It was wonderful seeing Connor keeping up with Allie, and hopefully the two of them help ease our new mom friends mind. A child especially a baby's brain is so plastic and unformed the it is amazing how much rewiring can occur. A stroke that would be devastating in an adult has such minor impact on a young brain. Of course therapy and early intervention is so very important in order to maximize our little one's potential.
